Jules Perlmutter:
"Two forces prompt my work and career as an artist..One is subjective, the other material. The subjective includes conscious an unconscious responses to the world which dictates expression in painting.
We know the unconscious is a repository of hidden and camouflaged memories of past experiences. Subjective content from unconscious sources is reflected and amplified in the integration of paint with other mediums with which I endeavor to arouse the unconscious of the viewer.
The layering of paint on paint on paper when incorporated in my work is metaphor for merging memories and camouflaged feelings.Collage expresses the merging and reflects a decoding of the hidden and searching as do works produced with dripping, threaded, liquid viscous paint."
Ishwar Malleret:
"As a child, I was fascinated by the colors of flowers at my parents' farm. Colors seemed to uplift my young spirit and nourish my soul. They gave me the experience of beauty, harmony and perfection.
As an artist, I remain aware of these precious memories and strive to enter into that inner space of serenity, simplicity and spontaneity. Colors are my primary tools and source of inspiration.
I pay attention to their subtle vibrations and let them guide me into their own delicate, sometime intricate and always surprising territories.I like to explore their depth, their light, their texture, their language, and to dive into the mystery of their own splendor.
I always cherish the experience of not knowing what the outcome of the creative process will be. It gives me the opportunity to touch that which I cannot express in words.
I invite the viewer not to try to understand the paintings but rather to experience them with an open mind and open heart.."

AUDUBON AND FRIENDS
An Art Exhibit of
Birds and Butterflies
By Kate Hyden
Official Opening:
June 25th-July 17th
How many ways can you depict birds and butterflies? The Flour Power Bakery in Livingston Manor will be crammed to the rafters with photography, watercolors, oils, sculpture, encaustics and as many media as will fit in Flour Power’s Upstairs Gallery this June.
It seems that the Sullivan County Audubon Society attracts not only bird and butterfly watchers but artists as well! The exhibition will also feature information about some of our local and migrating birds, butterflies to look for, and projects that SCAS has done to contribute to our knowledge and protection of wildlife.
As Livingston Manor has become a place for art and artists to feel at home, what better place for visitors and hometown people alike to see some wonderful art works, gain a little knowledge about our area and sample some of Flour Power’s outstanding baked goods or terrific café specials?
The exhibit’s reception will be on June 24, 2011, at 5:30PM, and the official opening will be on June 25th and run until July 17th. Exhibit hours will coincide with Flour Power’s hours of operation.

The Outsider Studio
Collective and Guest
Storyteller, Judith Katz,
Presents
an Evening of Storytelling
and Narrative Art
at Flour Power Bakery
This is a SHOUT OUT to all Storytellers:
Come to Flour Power on
Saturday, March 26th
at 4:00 PM to share
your story then stay for
an artist reception.
THE TOPIC: BAGGAGE
Each story will be about any kind of “Baggage”, psychic, material or otherwise.
Examples: the impact of having been silenced as you sang your heart out during the sixth grade Christmas class recital and instructed by the teacher to mouth the words; the pain of your mother telling you that when you were a new born she and your father wept over your looks and prayed that you would at least be intelligent.
Baggage as in lost suitcases. Baggage as in boxes, objects, junk, food that fills up cars, apartments, basements, garages and attics. Or something in between: a history that weighs you down, that prevents a lightness of being in any current situation.
Please contact Judith Katz (judithannkatz@earthlink.net), or Andrea Brown (a4aange@msn.com) if you have a hankering to tell your story at this Flour Power event. Following the storytelling, there will be a reception for the narrative art exhibit that accompanies this event.

The Essence Of Nature
Join us for the opening reception Saturday, May 7th from 4-6:30
The Gallery upstairs will be filled with the paintings and watercolors
of Susan Pascale.

Susan’s paintings have graced the walls of the café since we opened always brightening up our day. This is a perfect beginning to our long awaited spring. Refreshments will be served.
Artists Statement:
The color and light within nature has always has a healing, restorative and transforming effect on me. There is a universal divine energy to all forms of nature, the oceans, rivers, lakes, fields, forests, mountains and flowers. I’ve always been drawn to their beauty, shapes, color and light for as long as I can remember.
When I paint, what’s inside of me comes out. An external sight catches my imagination, but the image that results is changes by an inner awareness.
